From Homeless To
Homeowner.
Friday, August 01, 2008 was truly a blessed day as an Open
House Celebration was held to congratulate Steve Monts on
becoming the proud owner of 928 Blair Street. Through the
Neighborhood Development Corporation and BancorpSouth First
Time Homebuyers program, Monts qualified to purchase his
first home. Monts received a mortgage from BancorpSouth, and
a $15,000 grant from the University of Southern Mississippi
Institute for Disability Studies. He also received a $7000
grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas, and he is
participating in the City’s 80/20 program. Through this
program the City provides the 20% of the full mortgage at a
fixed 3% interest rate to help with the down payment. In
addition, the Tennessee Valley Regional Housing converted
Mont’s rental voucher to a homeownership voucher which will
go directly into helping with his mortgage and go into
escrow to help pay towards the maintenance of the house.
Monts expressed his great appreciation to all of the
partnerships who helped him make this dream come true.
