                                                        WELCOME TO THE
THOMAS STREET NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION

The Thomas Street Neighborhood Association was originally established as the South Foster Street Neighborhood Association in 2002.  In 2004 the association added Yates Acres and Cedar Grove and changed its name to the Thomas Street Neighborhood Association. Current officers for the association are as follows:

  • President, Iva Ford;

  • Vice-President/Treasurer, Edith Sherrill

  • Secretary, Charlene Fulghum

Meetings are scheduled for the 4th Tuesday of each month beginning at 6:00 pm at Thomas Street School.

Located in West Tupelo, homes in the Thomas Street Neighborhood Association are close to many conveniences such as Tupelo’s main post office, the WIN Job Center, and Thomas Street Elementary School (K-3).  Residents also have easy access to the Natchez Trace Parkway, which is within a few miles driving distance west on Highway 6.

Wal-Mart SuperCenter, although not technically included in the association’s boundaries, is located on Highway 6, practically within walking distance to many residents. This established area consists of six subdivisions: Meadowview, Eva, Yates Acres, Cedar Grove, Traceland and Parkland Estates.

Meadowview Subdivision

In 1949 Mrs. R. L. Moore was granted permission by the city of Tupelo to develop what was then only fields and pasture land into a neighborhood of moderate size homes. Appropriately, she named it Meadowview. Her son Murray Moore and his family were the first residents of Meadowview.  Later in 1955, Ruby and Emmett Sherfey moved into their new home on Foster Street; Mrs Sherfey still lives in this same house today. Beginning with the houses located south of Main Street, this subdivision ends at Lafayette Street.

Eva Subdivision

Construction in the Eva subdivision began in 1960 and was developed by Eva Gravelee. It was built parallel to Meadowview and encompasses the area from Lafayette Street to Bryan Drive.  In the 1980's Alicia Lane, a cul-de-sac north of Bryan Drive, was added.

Yates Acres

The development of Yates Acres began in 1960 by David O. Puckett, Jr., and his cousins Frank Harvey and Sara Alice Harvey.  This sixty-one acre track of land was given to Puckett and his cousins by their grandmother Bessy Yates, and they named the sub-division in her honor.  Two additional developments, Traceland and Parkland, were added in the 1970's to the original Yates Acres subdivision, which includes Confederate, Buckner, Hampton, and Pemberton Avenues and Mosby Drive; however, today all three developments are commonly referred to as Yates Acres.

Cedar Grove Subdivision

The Traceland Corporation began work to develop the land south of Bryan Drive in 1975. Most likely they decided on the name Cedar Grove because of the abundance of cedar trees in that area. Cedar Grove’s first home was built in 1976 on Crestwood Drive by Dorothy and Tommy Thompson and remains one of the many beautiful homes in this neighborhood.
